IFQ June 2022
HALIBUT
At the time of this writing, approximately 12% of this year’s halibut TAC has been landed. Ex-vessel prices remain very strong, but reports from the grounds indicate slower fishing than expected. Demand continues to outpace supply for halibut quota, specifically for 2C, 3A, and 3B, with prices increasing as a result. Limited activity in areas 4A and 4B despite reduced asking prices. We expect these trends to continue into the summer.
SABLEFISH
At the time of this writing, approximately 20% of the sablefish TAC has been landed. Ex-vessel price have shown some signs of improvement since the start of the season, and fishing reports continue to be mostly positive. Recent sales have occurred in CG and WY but sales activity remains slow in most areas. We continue to speculate that the discontinuation of Covid temporary transfers will likely result in an increase of sablefish IFQ for sale.
